Unaesthetic Scars

A scar is a part of the repair process when the skin suffers a wound. The more the skin is damaged, the longer it takes to recover.
The scar formation has variables that affect this process like the patient's age, location of the wound in the body and genetic factors.

There are three different types of scars:

  • Hypertrophic scar: This type of scar can be red, thick and high and its growth is limited to the same edge of the original scar. It occurs in young ones or in people with dark skin.
  • Keloid scar: This type of scar is red and has an oval shape and extends beyond the edges of the wound. It occurs in young ones or in people with dark skin.
  • Atrophic scar: This type of scar is small and round, it is formed when the healing process has been incomplete.
